A leading citizen of Tatura for many years, Mr Hubert ("Tib") Reilly, is the first Goulburn Valley citizen to become a Member of the Order of Australia.
Mr Reilly received many telephone calls and answered the door to many visitors today as Tatura and district people congratulated him.
This is only the second year of the Order of Australia awards.
Mr Reilly will be presented with his award in Canberra later in the year.
The award was made for community service with a long list of the town's organisations.
Mr Reilly was chairman of the Tatura Waterworks Trust for many years and a member of the Sewerage Authority for 25 years.
He was on the executive of Water Trusts Association of Victoria and the Sewerage Authorities Association and services as term as president of the water trusts association.
He was inaugural president of the lawn tennis club and the Hill Top Golf Club and the Myalla Homes.
He is a member of the Goulburn Valley Football League's tribunal.
Born in Tatura, Mr Reilly has lived there all of his life, apart from going away for education for a few years and for his years of war service.
He qualified as a pharmacist, but his father asked him to return home for six months to help run his family flour mill.
That was 50 years ago.
Mr Reilly said today he was very proud of Tatura and had just done his best to help it progress.
