A demonstration of a stair climbing attachment for wheelchairs yesterday proved disabled people could overcome the problems of Shepparton's two storey Civic Centre complex.
The device uses tracks powered by a rechargeable battery to climb stairs, ramps and other inclines.
Manufacturing representative, Mr Micheal Everton, was in Shepparton to demonstrate the machine to Shepparton City Council and other interested people.
Mayor Cr Bill Hunter said the demonstration was in response to a challenge given to the Mayor in January last year to spend two hours in a wheelchair.
Cr Hunter said then he found difficulty entering public buildings such as the library, the Court House, besides realising it was impossible to attend council meetings on the second floor of the council chambers.
