July 6, 1976: 350 at police farewell

August 10, 2017

At least 350 police and citizens were at the Victoria Hotel last night to farewell five policemen from Shepparton.

The men have been either promoted or transferred and will be taking up duty at various police stations throughout the state.

Mr Jack Towers spoke on behalf of the citizens present and superintendent Bob McNaughton, head of the Goulburn Police District, spoke on behalf of the police force.

Supt. McNaughton said, in the past at similar occasions, it has always been one man leaving the area and he was sorry to be seeing five men leaving all at once.

He wished the men all the best for the future in their new jobs and was hopeful they might return to Shepparton at some stage.

Guests at the send off enjoyed music provided by Dale Wright and a special treat was a classical piano recital by a member of the police force from Wodonga.

All present commented highly on the smorgasbord dinner put on by the Management and staff at the Victoria Hotel.
