Senior Citizens Welfare Committee president Harold Craig-Brown (right) with committee secretary Harry Seydel accepts the keys to the new Meals on Wheels van from Shepparton Lions Club president Bill Williams (left).

The van, worth $1500, is the first of a number to be presented by service clubs.

The van will help volunteers to cut the time of deliveries by carrying more meals on each trip.

At the presentation with Lions members, Shepparton Mayor Kevin Riordan (in light suit) said the service clubs in Shepparton have become a valuable asset to the community with schemes similar to this one.

He hoped this would be the aim for many years to come.

On behalf of the committee, Mr Craig-Brown said how much the meals were appreciated by the elderly recipients. More than 1000 hot meals are delivered each month by volunteers.
